The path to taking part in this years Troutmasters Final 2011 at Grafham Water for me has been an interesting experience littered with catching a series of very large rainbow trout along the way.

Invasion of the Killer Shrimp
Here is the start of a new one. The first discovery of a non-native invasive aquatic species all the way from the Danube found in Grafham Water. Here is Anglian Waters Advice for water users: help prevent the spread of invasive wildlife that details the little monster. Having seen the offender first hand it is not small, and very prolific already. For those who fly fish at Grafham a shrimp pattern in size 10 or 8, based upon hare's ear should do the trick. A pale creamy hare's fur underside, topped with a light tan shellback with some partridge legs should do it.
Trout Personal Bests
I thought I would record the various personal best trout I have managed to catch over the years at Anglian Waters four trout fishing reservoirs. I have managed to catch many brownies and rainbows in the 3lb 0oz - 3lb 12oz class which are not really recorded here. I recently found out the the set of scales I use underweight by around 4 to 5 ounces...

A couple of days after receiving the Rutland Water Fly Fishers August Newsletter in the post and suitably armed with it's valuable information I decided to pay a visit to the top of the North Arm on Rutland despite the intermittent torrential rain that was falling that Saturday.

Drifting through "The Narrows" at Pitsford mid afternoon on a strong south westerly wind I spotted a body bobbing up and down in the waves with the obligatory attendant large feeding sea gull out of the corner of my eye.
